Technical

technical Bemis manufactures specialty thermoplastic films and coatings. Most of our films or coatings are used as thermo sensitive (hot melt) adhesives. Unlike pressure sensitive adhesives, our films do not exhibit surface tack at room temperature. In order to activate a thermo sensitive adhesive (TSA) film, heat and pressure must be applied to the adhesive. When the adhesive film is exposed to heat under pressure, it will soften and penetrate into the substrates that are being bonded together. The adhesive film forms a mechanical as well as chemical bond to both substrates, upon cooling, the film regains its strength resulting in high bond strength. Depending on thermal properties and chemistry of the adhesive, the bonded substrates can withstand a wide temperature range with excellent chemical resistance.

Our sales and technical service staff are able to provide both standard and custom solutions to each customer depending on their process, application and testing requirements. We offer mono or multi layer films formulated from different polymer chemistries, within each polymer family we offer films with distinctive thermal and mechanical properties. Polyurethane based adhesives, nylon, polyolefins and vinyl formulas adhere to vitually any substrate such as fabrics, foams, plastics, other composites and combinations.

Our knowledge and expertise in making extruded thermoplastic films allows us to quickly develop other specialty formulated thermoplastic films. Clarense™, our clear thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) film offers high modulus at low thickness and excellent recovery. We have worked closely with our customers and industry specialists to offer aliphatic polyurethane films, static dissipative films (Staticade™), flame retardant films and abrasion resistance films.
