Bemis Volunteers Participate in 26th Annual United Way Day of Caring

September 21, 2021

On Friday, September 17th, the United Way of North Central Massachusetts hosted their 26th annual Day of Caring event and Bemis was front and center as one of this year’s gold sponsors for the event. More touching, despite the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Bemis had 67 employees volunteer, the largest number of participants from a group this year.

The annual event attracts volunteers from local companies and community residents to initiate and complete various projects in and around North Central Massachusetts. This year, Bemis employees participated in several projects including landscaping around local schools; beautifying community playgrounds; helping to close and winterize Crocker Pond Beach in Westminster, MA; support the Community Harvest Project in Harvard, MA by picking more than 7,000 pounds of apples for community need. “The ability to give something back to the community is truly a gift and we’re so grateful to have the opportunity to participate in this annual event,” said Allison B. Jones, Sustainability and Environmental Compliance Program Manager at Bemis.

This year, the Day of Caring kicked-off with a “Grab & Go” breakfast at the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster, followed by a “Thank You” Barbecue at Mount Wachusett Community College in the afternoon. UWNCM monitored the COVID-19 situation and adjusted DOC activities and project requirements as necessary.
